Longan trees can grow huge, sometimes as large as 135 feet! They are frost sensitive and should not be planted where the typical temperatures fall below 40 degrees. When ripe the fruit is contained within a thin bark-like shell that is cracked open and the fruit squeezed out. It is extremely sweet and juicy and is common in Chinese cooking.
