There are more than 2,000 varieties of peaches. Some trees can grow as tall as 30 feet. Peaches originated in China and spread worldwide from there. The trees can tolerate cold temperatures as low as -30 C. Many dwarf varieties have been developed for the home gardener. Peaches are closely related to the Nectarine and have many of the same traits like clingstone and freestone plus white or yellow varieties.
